MyM Magazine ceases publication

Written by Alex Jones on 18 Feb 2018

Sad news from the world of UK anime publications this weekend as MyM magazine, the official magazine of MCM Comic Con, announces that the recently released issue 71 will be its last. This news follows the annoucement late last year that ReedPOP had acquired MCM Comic Con.

As editor Matt Chapman explains in his final editorial, MyM started life back in 2012 and was originally set to be named MyManga before MCM Comic Con co-founded Bryan Cooney suggested the name MyM - with the "M" covering the tagline "movies, manga, media, more".

Over the years the magazine has covered anime, manga, comics, Western and Asian cinema, video games, cosplay, conventions and more. I myself have been a regular contributor to the magazine since 2013, and was consistently impressed by the number of feature pitches they showed interest in publishing - many of which covered particularly niche topics or franchises with little to no exposure in the United Kingdom.

Chapman has confirmed that the magazine's spirit will live on through the MCM Buzz website, but it's another sad loss for magazine shelves as print media continues to slowly move towards obsoletion.

Thank you and good luck to all the MyM staff and contributors as they move on to new ventures.
