Netflix orders Scott Pilgrim Anime

Written by Ross Locksley on 30 Mar 2023

Hollywood Reporter have posted an article stating that Netflix have ordered a Scott Pilgrim anime series that will feature the voice talents of the 2010 film starring Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieren Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh and Mark Webber.

Creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski will write and executive produce the series. UCP, the Universal Studio Group which created the hit Umbrella Academy adaptation and Chucky will also be involved.

Japanese animation studio Science Saru will animate the series, the company was formed in 2013 and has worked on Inu-Oh and two of the Star Wars Visions shorts.

O'Malley has previously stated that he took inspiration from manga for his Scott Pilgrim series, so it seems only fitting to incorporate some of the culture into the animated show.

Science Saru's Abel Góngora will direct, music will be provided by chiptune artists Anamanaguchi and a score by composer Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, The Raid).
