Anime guest of honour revealed
Written by A. H. on 07 Oct 2016
Although Scotland Loves Anime is at the front of our minds this month, it shouldn't be forgotten that October ends with the latest MCM London Comic Con. If you're mulling over attending the show, you'll doubtless be keen to know that the show's Anime Guest of Honour has now been announced, bringing another notable Japanese guest to London.
The gust in question is Naoyoshi Shiotani, best known as the director of Psycho-Pass as just one of the highlights of a career that has taken in everything from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex through to the all-CG Oblivion Island.
Here's the full press release regarding Mr. Shiotani's attendance at the event.
Psycho-Pass director Naoyoshi Shiotani to attend MCM London Comic Con
Naoyoshi Shiotani, director of hit sci-fi series Psycho-Pass and its 2014 feature film spin-off, is to be Anime Guest of Honour at this month’s MCM London Comic Con. As well as signing autographs for fans over the Comic Con weekend, Shiotani is to present an on-stage panel about his work on Psycho-Pass and other titles on the Saturday of the show.
One of famed anime studio Production I.G's most promising young creators, Naoyoshi Shiotani first shot to international prominence for helming the kaleidoscopic opening title sequence of 2005 TV series Blood+, before making his award-winning directorial debut with 2007’s Tokyo Marble Chocolate. He also worked as animation director on Production I.G’s first 3DCG animated feature, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror.
However, it’s as the director of the critically-acclaimed Psycho-Pass that Naoyoshi Shiotani is best known to UK fans. Set in a dystopian future Japan where those deemed a threat to society are hunted down before they can commit a crime, the success of Psycho-Pass also led Shiotani to direct Psycho-Pass: The Movie, coming to UK home video on 31 October.
