Shoji Kawamori teams up wih Activision for Call of Duty Mobile

Written by Ross Locksley on 13 Sep 2021

Mecha designer extraordinaire Shoji Kawamori has teamed up with Call of Duty Mobile to create a new unit called "Ashura". This new drone is capable of performing complex human tasks on the battlefield and is now available in the Ashura Lucky Draw as part of Season 7 of the game.

For those not familiaer with the designer, Shoji Kawamori has been instrumental in designing your childhoold, from the first Optimus Prime toy for Takara (in the pre-Transformers Diaclone line) to the iconic VF-1 Valkyrie in Macross.

Our very own British master of mecha, Ollie Barder, was also involved in the game and has been personally thanked by Mr Kawamori for his help, so it's a great to see these two working together.

From the Press Release:

Shoji Kawamori — The Artist Bringing Reaper –Ashura to Life

While a student at Keio University, Kawamori worked as one of the original writers of the TV anime series The Super Dimension Fortress Macross in which he designed the three-stage transforming mecha Valkyrie that appeared in the series.

At 23 years old, he was chosen to direct the movie Macross: Do You Remember Love? In addition to the Macross series, he has also written and directed the Aquarion series and Ihatov Fantasy: Kenji’s Spring, a semi-autobiographical anime special inspired by Kenji Miyazawa. Other work includes mecha designs for Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and the mecha designs for the 1995 Ghost in the Shell anime movie, as well as a myriad of other works.

“I hope you’ll enjoy playing with the special skin I designed forCall of Duty: Mobile,” says Kawamori. Now let’s dig into all the goods you can earn in the Ashura Draw.

An advanced robot like Reaper – Ashura needs an advanced weapon to match. Enter the Legendary M4LMG — Salamander, a devastating LMG Weapon Blueprint that will have Reaper – Ashura’s enemies running for cover and is also designed by Kawamori. The Salamander is fully integrated into the robot’s interface, providing a heads-up display any time the weapon is used. Its ammo is electrically charged, too, creating an explosion when eliminating targets, leaving nothing but smoke in the wind.

Also available in the Ashura Draw are multiple Epic items including the LK24 – Firehook, the FHJ-18 – Technophile launcher, the Charm - Lil' Ashura, and the Wingsuit - Technophile, , in addition to Reaper — Ashura. A word of advice: If you see Reaper – Ashura, run for your life.

Prepare for mobilization.
