New Pakistan animation from Studio Ghibli and Studio Ponoc director Usman Riaz

Written by Ross Locksley on 07 Aug 2025

As the world seemingly becomes more interwoven, this new animated feature, The Glassworker, from Mano Animation Studios, draws heavily upon the style of Studio Ghibli to deliver what promises to be a charming and inventive new film.

The influence is no surprise given that the director making his debut is Usman Riaz, who worked under the mentorship of both Studio Ghibli and Studio Ponoc producer Geoffrey Wexler

The voice actors lending their talents to the film include Art Malik (True Lies, Penance), Sacha Dhawan (Iron Fist, Wolf)  and Anji Mohindr (The Sarah Jane Adventures).

About the film:

In a picturesque seaside town rich in sand and tradition, Vincent, an apprentice glassblower, works alongside his pacifist father Tomas at their renowned workshop. Their serene world destabilises when war looms, and a strict army colonel and his violinist daughter Alliz arrive. As Vincent and Alliz forge a deep bond, conflicting family allegiances and patriotism test their love, forcing them to confront the brutality of war and the power of art.

Trailer:

The Glassworker will be in cinemas on September 19th.
