AVCon 2014 Australian anime licensing round-up

Written by A. H. on 22 Jul 2014

As we've mentioned a few times in the past, Australia is often a good place to look to get a feel for potential future UK releases (and the timing of those releases) given UK distributor's propensity to share authoring costs with their Australian counterparts. With that in mind, last week's AVcon event down under has given us a fair amount of licensing and release news to chew over.

Let's start out with Madman Entertainment, who confirmed Blu-Ray releases of classics Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell (minus the UK's fancy Steelbook edition in most cases, and also announced that Hellsing Ultimate IX and X would be released on both DVD and Blu-Ray in November. We know what Manga Entertainment will be releasing these final Hellsing Ultimate instalments in due course, so this perhaps suggests that we'll see those final two instalments before 2014 is out.

Madman's one new license announcement is the Senran Kagura anime, based upon the best-selling video game franchise. There are no release date or format details at this time, but it does increase the possibility of a future UK release.

Elsewhere, Hanabee also had a number of titles to show off, including streams of Aldnoah.Zero, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei and Rail Wars (all of which are available via Crunchyroll and Animax UK respectively in our territory).

In terms of physical releases, Watamote will be released on October 1st, offering us a clue as to when we may see MVM Entertainment's UK release, with Kabukimonogatai and the first season of Valvrave the Liberator also arriving on the same date. We already know that MVM Entertainment have all-but sealed the deal on bringing Monogatari Second Season to the UK, but will we be hearing about a UK release of Valvrave in the near future to boot? All three of these Australian releases will be available on both DVD and Blu-Ray.

Hanabee also confirmed a home video release of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya at an unspecified future date - Anime Limited hold the UK rights to this particular series.

Finally we have Siren Visual, who have nabbed the Australian home video rights for Nagi no Asukara: A Lull in the Sea - there's no news on release dates, formats or English dub possibilities at this point in time though.

Do any of these titles excite you? Let us know in the comments!
