Anime Expo 2016 video game round-up

Written by A. H. on 04 Jul 2016

Alongside all of the anime and manga announcements, the weekend's Anime Expo in Los Angeles also brought forth plenty of video game-related announcements of interest to anime fans. Thus, let's round-up what's been unveiled at the show:

Bandai Namco Entertainment

If you're both a PS Vita owner and a fan of the Asterisk War, then you'll be pleased to hear that visual novel The Asterisk War: Phoenix Festa will be coming to the west (or North America) at least as a digital release under the localised title of A.W. : Phoenix Festa, arriving on July 26th.

Aksys Games

It was a particularly busy show for Aksys, who had plenty to announce at their panel. Heading their announcements was news that action RPG Tokyo Xanadu will be coming to both the PS Vita and PC (via Steam) in 2017. Also coming our way is Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters Daybreak Special Gigs on the PlayStation 3, 4 and Vita in the autumn, as are Chase: Cold Case Investigations ~Distant Memories~ and Usagimaru as eShop digital downloads for the Nintendo 3DS.

In other big news, the first two Zero Escape games - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue's Last Reward - will be getting English language voiced versions on as-yet unspecified platforms, while XBlaze Lost: Memories and Aegis of Earth will get to enjoy a PC port via Steam.

There's also plenty of news for otome game fans, as English releases are planned for Otomate titles Bad Apple Wars, Period Cube ~Torikago no Amadeus~ and Collar × Malice. All three of these PS Vita titles are set to land in their English language editions in 2017. Finally, a Vita fan disc for Code: Realize, subtitled ~Guardian of Rebirth~, will be coming to the west too.

Sekai Project

Localisation company Sekai Project continue to keep themselves busy with plenty of Anime Expo announcements. First up, visual novel-cum-RPGs Baldr Sky Dive1 “Lost Memory” and Baldr Sky Dive2 “Recordare” are both coming to Steam, as are visual novels SakuSaku and the idol-themed game Shining Song Starnova. Denpasoft's adult game with illustrations from NEKOPARA illustrator Sayori, Boku to Koisuru Ponkotsu Akuma, is also coming in a localised English version.

If you want some anime-themed gaming on the go meanwhile, A Magical High School Girl is coming to both iOS and Steam, offering up an RPG with real-time battles on both platforms.

In console news, Spice and Wolf author Isuna Hasekura's WORLD END ECONOMiCA will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in 2017 to supplement its existing Steam release.

Finally, Sekai Project have also announced their first entirely original project under their new Code:jp brand. Japanese School Life is set for an October 2016 release as the first in a series of visual novels fully voiced in Japanese.

MangaGamer

Sticking with visual novel localisation, MangaGamer unveiled a couple of all-ages titles coming to Steam, in the form of Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome fom Kalmia8, and Circus' D.S. – Dal Segno.
