Anime Limited listed as Lu Over the Wall distributor on Annecy web site

Anime aplenty at animation film festival

Written by A. H. on 02 May 2017

Befitting of a time where there's more anime films making it to the west than ever in theatrical form, this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival has no shortage of anime both in and out of the festival's competition when it takes place next month from the 12th to the 17th of June 2017.

Indeed, the festival will play home to a number of films slated for - or already having enjoyed - a UK theatrical release. A Silent Voice (distributed in the UK by Anime Limited) and In This Corner of the World (from Animatsu Entertainment) are both in competition, while Anime Limited's Ancien and the Magic Tablet will also be screened, as well Polygon Pictures' BLAME! film which is coming to Netflix soon.

However, of particular interest to us here is another anime film in competition - Lu Over the Wall, a new film from Masaaki Yuasa and one of two theatrical projects coming soon from this renowned director.

The reason for our interest in the Annecy web site listing for the film should be obvious enough when you take a look at the page - the distributor for the title is listed as none other than Anime Limited. Of course, there's no further clarification as to whether this distribution deal pertains to the UK (don't forget that they also have an operation in France), but we'll be crossing our fingers in hope of a UK theatrical airing for the movie.

If your curiousity has been piqued, here's a brief synopsis of the film:

Kai is a boy who lives in a lonely fishing village. One day, he meets and befriends Lu, a mermaid who likes singing and dancing. But the townspeople have always thought that mermaids bring disaster. Something happens that puts a huge rift between Lu and the villagers, endangering the town.

Would you like to see this film in UK cinemas? Let us know in the comments!
