It's seemingly enjoyed quite a lot of success and acclaim from some quarters, so those who enjoyed it will be pleased to hear that San Diego Comic Con has seen DreamWorks Animation and Netflix confirm that a second season of Voltron Legendary Defender is in the works, and will arrive on Netflix's streaming service in late 2016.

Meanwhile, the soundtrack to season one of the series is now available on iTunes.

Here's the full press release containing the announcement:

DreamWorks Animation and Netflix Confirm Season 2 of Voltron Legendary Defender Coming Late 2016

Following the critically-acclaimed first season of the Netflix original series DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender, executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery and writer Tim Hedrick thrilled fans with confirmation of a second season arriving later this year during their San Diego Comic-Con panel Thursday, July 21.

Joined by surprise guest Steven Yeun, who voices Keith the pilot of the red lion, panel attendees were treated to behind-the-scenes stories, the filmmakers' favorite scenes from season 1 and a sneak peek of what promises to be an epic second season. Picking up in the moments following the season one finale cliffhanger, viewers will follow Team Voltron in the wake of Haggar's disruption of their wormhole as they are scattered across the universe.

Season 2 of DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender will premiere exclusively on Netflix in late 2016.

DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender Season 1 (now streaming on Netflix) tells the epic story of a handful of cadets at Earth’s Galaxy Garrison space academy who encounter alien life for the first time. Shocked to discover that the universe is under siege by the merciless Emperor Zarkon and his Galra hordes, pilots Shiro, Keith, Lance, Pidge, and Hunk unwittingly find themselves recruited to join a mission more dangerous and thrilling than they could have imagined. This ragtag group of pilots-in-training must suddenly learn to work as a team as they come to the aid of the desperate Princess Allura, who leads them to face an enemy of endless cunning and unimaginable power. Their only hope? Locating and learning how to fly five mystical robot lions scattered across galaxies that will form the universe’s ultimate weapon, the gigantic super-warrior Voltron. Created ten millennia ago by Princess Allura’s.

Season 1 features the voices of Rhys Darby, Jeremy Shada, Steven Yeun, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Josh Keaton, Tyler Labine, Kimberly Brooks, Neil Kaplan and Cree Summer.
