'Someone else has it' says Manga Entertainment
Written by A. H. on 06 Jan 2014
As a well-regarded classic that saw a new Blu-Ray release in North America last year courtesy of Maiden Japan, there has been some talk and hopeful mumblings about a possible UK re-release of Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise.
This hope is now perhaps a little closer thanks to a Twitter conversation about the possibility of Manga Entertainment acquiring the classic 1987 GAINAX movie, which they previously released on VHS and later DVD, was met with a response from the company's Jerome Mazandarani stating simply that it's "Too late. Someone else has got it".
Thus - and assuming this statement is correct - the speculation can now begin as to who exactly has picked up the license. Given its standing within anime fandom and MVM Entertainment's rule of thumb not to license theatrical films for release, our eyes are currently turned to Anime Limited as the likely licensee for this film - we'll certainly be hoping for a suitably impressive Blu-Ray release at some point in the future.
