New York Comic Con 2015 manga licensing round-up

Written by A. H. on 11 Oct 2015

Following Viz Media's round of anime and manga licensing news on Friday, this year's New York Comic Con has also seen new appear from panels hosted by other major manga publishers, so let's take a look at what they all had to discuss:

Vertical Comics

Let's start out with Vertical Comics, and a curious announcement - that the company will be releasing audio light novels, complete with voice acting, musical and sound effects, starting in spring 2016. No titles have been confirmed for this treatment at present, but we'll be curious to see more about their plans!

Also confirmed by Vertical Comics is that their release of the Kizumonogatari light novel has slipped into December.

Crunchyroll Manga

Crunchyroll's digital manga service had a few new additions to their line-up to tout, including Hikaru Nakamura's oddball comedy series Arakawa Under the Bridge, supernatural manga series Gugure! Kokkuri-san and Cuticle Detective Inaba. All three series should be added to the service soon.

Yen Press

As you might expect Yen Press had both manga and light novel announcements to tout as they discussed their attempts to build the latter market.

In terms of novels, the publisher unveiled their acquisitions of Overlord (recently adapted as an anime for the summer 2015 season) and Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and the Beast, both of which will also see their manga adaptations released in English too. Also acquired in light novel form alone is harem comedy Psycome (short for Psycho Love Comedy).

Meanwhile, in terms of manga acquisitions the company have picked up Corpse Party: Blood Covered, horror thriller Scumbag Loser (aka Saiteihen no Otoko), adaptations of anime series Space Dandy and Dimension W, and slice of life comedy series Unhappy Go Lucky!

Kodansha Comics

Last but not least we have Kodansha Comics, whose biggest announcement was that they will be publishing an anthology of Attack on Titan comics from western creators in the autumn of 2016.

Beyond that, the company also had two new manga acquisitions to look forward to, with their announcements consisting of Attack on Titan comedy spin-off Spoof on Titan, and another Space Dandy manga in the form of I Am Space Dandy.
